Healthy growth and development are the basis of human development. Malnutrition has a negative impact on economic and social development and perpetuates poverty through direct losses in productivity, indirect losses from poor cognitive function, poor child development and lack of schooling. Additionally, losses due to the increased health care costs of people suffering from nutrition-related diseases are likely to be exorbitant. Besides the economic growth experienced in Latin America there are high levels of malnutrition, especially in rural and semi-urban areas jeopardizing their potential to a dignified development. However, many organizations and private companies are providing answers to solve malnutrition through inclusive business oriented to engage low-income communities. Nourishing Hope analyses this situation and interviews some of the key actors changing the fate of children providing access to a better nutrition and healthy lives.
